We have dark earthen jars; within them the wine seems
We have earthenware vessels; the wine within them is like
like full moons set against the swarthy blackness of night—
Full moons against the dusky darkness of night—

full moons: whenever that night’s perfect orbs arise, they are effaced
Full moons that, whenever they rise full, are blotted out
by the brilliance of radiant stars rising upon the wine.
By radiant stars rising above the palms.
