مُفَكِّراً مِن غَيرِ أَشجانِ
He has placed his palm upon his cheek,
He rested his palm against his cheek
thinking, without sorrow.
In thought, without any passion,
كَأَنَّماas though يَستُرُconceals عَنfrom ناظِريmy gaze
كَأَنَّما يَستُرُ عَن ناظِري
بنانُهُhis fingers وَرداًa rose بِسَوسانِwith lilies
بنانُهُ وَرداً بِسَوسانِ
As though his fingers conceal from my gaze
As though he sought to hide from my sight
a rose with lilies.
His teeth, roses twined round lilies.
كَأَنَّماas though أَطرافُهُhis fingertips فضَّةٌsilver
كَأَنَّما أَطرافُهُ فضَّةٌ

As though his fingertips were silver,
His fingertips seemed to be silver
with nails of pure gold fashioned for them.
Cast into claws by some artisan.
