وَآنسني فيك النجومُ برعيها

وَآنسني فيك النجومُ برعيها

فدريُّها حَليٌ وَبَدرُ الدُّجى إلفي

فدريُّها حَليٌ وَبَدرُ الدُّجى إلفي

And in you, the stars kept me company as I watched them.

The stars befriend me with their grazing,

For their radiant star is an ornament, and night's full moon is my companion.

Their scattering is jewelry, and the full moon is my intimate.

كَأَنَّ سَماءَ الأَرضِ نِطعُ زُمُرُّدٍ

كَأَنَّ سَماءَ الأَرضِ نِطعُ زُمُرُّدٍ

وَقَد فُرِشَت فيهِ الدَّنانير لِلصَّرفِ

وَقَد فُرِشَت فيهِ الدَّنانير لِلصَّرفِ

As though the earth's sky were a leather mat of emerald,

As though the sky of the earth is brocaded emerald,

with dinars spread upon it for exchange.

With dinars spread over it for spending.
