1. ضممتُها بِكرَ من ضَمَمْتُ

    وقبلةً كان ما غنمتُ

    I embraced her, the first I ever embraced,

    And a kiss was what I won.

  2. بريئةَ النَّيلِ يعتريها

    سكونُ حبٍّ غفا ، وصَمْْتُ

    Innocent in being won, she is overtaken

    By a slumbering love's stillness, and silence.

  3. يلفُّها الطهر قرمزيّاً

    هام على ثغرها ، فهمتُ

    Purity enfolds her, crimson-hued;

    It wandered over her lips, and I was enraptured.

  4. أَرتشف اللون باشتياق

    يهمُّ بي مثلما هممتُ

    I sip the color with a longing

    That yearns for me as I have yearned.

  5. فأَطبق السرُّ مستباحاً

    يموج في كلِّ ما علمتُ

    Then the secret closed in, laid bare,

    Surging through all I knew.

  6. تحبني ... جُهدَ ما تمنّتْ

    وتخنق الوهم إِنْ وهمتُ

    She loves me ... with all the force of her longing,

    And strangles illusion if I am deluded.

  7. تحبّني جامح التمنِّي

    أَنثر في الحبِ ما لممتُ

    She loves me; unbridled in longing,

    I scatter in love what I gathered.

  8. وأَنشق الفوح من شذاها

    منوّر النفحِ أَينَ رمتُ

    And I inhale the scent wafting from her fragrance,

    Radiant in its wafting wherever I sought it.

  9. يا قبلةً كلُّها نعيمٌ

    حسبي من العمر أَنْ لثمتُ

    O kiss, all of you bliss!

    It is enough for me in life that I have kissed.

  10. ولي بها غاية تُرَجّى

    صلَّيت من أَجلها وصُمْت

    And in it I have a longed-for goal,

    For which I have prayed and fasted.
