وما كنتَ ممن أدرك المُلكَ بالمُنى

وما كنتَ ممن أدرك المُلكَ بالمُنى

ولكن بأيّامٍ أشبنَ النواصيا

ولكن بأيّامٍ أشبنَ النواصيا

Nor were you among those who attained kingship through wishes,

You were not of those who attained kingship by wishing,

but through days that turned forelocks gray.

But by days that made the forelocks grey.
