He stood, though he had not yet sought support from his leg.

He rose, unable to stand on his own feet,

Attached to his resting place, despite parting from it.

Accustomed to parting's dwelling place,

كأنّهُ في الشبحِ من وثاقهِ

كأنّهُ في الشبحِ من وثاقهِ

رأى حبيباً همّ باعتناقه

رأى حبيباً همّ باعتناقه

As though, stretched out by his bonds,

As if he were bound in apparition -

He had seen a beloved and meant to embrace him.

He saw a lover and yearned to embrace him.

كأنه يضحك في أشداقه

كأنه يضحك في أشداقه

As though he were laughing at the corners of his mouth.

As if laughing through clenched teeth.
