1. سُليمى تِلكَ في العِير

    قفي نُخبركِ أو سيري

    There is Sulayma in the caravan.

    Stop, let us tell you—or journey on,

  2. لِتَعتام الوليدَ القَر

    مَ أهل الجودِ والخيرِ

    To choose al-Walid, the noble chief,

    A man of generosity and goodness.

  3. كريمٌ يهب البُزلَ

    مع الخُور الجراجير

    Generous, he gives mature camels,

    Along with huge, milk-rich she-camels.

  4. ويُعطي الذهب الأحمـ

    ـرَ وزناً بالقناطير

    And he gives red gold,

    Weighed out in qintars.

  5. بَلوناه فأحمَدنا

    هُ في عُسرٍ ومَيسور

    We tested him and found him praiseworthy,

    In hardship and prosperity.

  6. إمامٌ يُوضحَ الحقّ

    له نورٌ على نور

    A leader who makes the truth clear,

    He has light upon light.

  7. مقال من أخي وُدّ

    بحفظ الصِدق ماثور

    Words from a loving friend,

    Renowned for his fidelity to truth.
