This sorrow returned, then closed in,

And drove sleep away, so it would not come.

    فَإِذا ما كَوكَبٌ طَلَعا

    Sitting, I keep watch over the stars;

    And whenever a star rises,

It moves on, until I cannot see

That it has fallen into the lowland.

And she has at al-Matirun, when

The ants have eaten what they gathered,

Fruit to gather—until, when she spends the spring,

    She recalls churches in Jillaq,

Under domes around a village, among which

    The olives have already ripened.
