لَمdid not تَنَمsleep مُقلَتيmy eye لِطولِbecause of the length of بُكاهاits weeping

وَلِماand because of what جالَdrifted فَوقَهاupon it مِنof قَذاهاits motes
وَلِما جالَ فَوقَها مِن قَذاها
My eye has not slept, so long has it wept,
My eyelids did not sleep due to her prolonged weeping,
and because of the motes that drifted upon it.
And the motes that fell upon them.
فَالقَذىso the grit كُحلُهاits kohl إِلىuntil أَنthat أَرىI see وَجface (first part)

هَ سُلَيمى وَكَيفَ لي أَن أَراها
So the grit is its kohl until I see the face
The motes are her kohl, until I see the face of Sulaymah,
of Sulayma—and how am I to see her?
And how can I see her?
أَحدَثَتcaused مُقلَتيmy eye بِإِدمانِهاthrough its ceaseless shedding of الدَمthe tears (first part)

عَ وَهِجرانِها الكَرى مُقلَتاها
My eye has been brought to ceaseless weeping
My eyelids have shed tears constantly
and to forsaking sleep by her two eyes.
And her dearest departure has reddened them.
فَلِعَينَيَّso for my two eyes كُلَّevery يَومٍday دُموعٌtears
فَلِعَينَيَّ كُلَّ يَومٍ دُموعٌ

إِنَّما تَستَدِرُّها عَيناها
So my eyes have tears each day,
For my eyes, every day there are tears
which only her eyes draw forth.
That only her eyes can draw out.
