أَناI اِبنُson of الصِّيدِthe proud nobles مَنfrom سَلَفَيْthe two ancestral lines of ثَقيفِThaqif
If anyone asks about me, then indeed,
Whoever asks about me, I am
I am the son of proud nobles from Thaqif's two ancestral lines.
The son of hunters, my ancestors being Thaqif.
وَفيand in وَسَطِthe midst of البِطاحِthe broad valleys مَحَلُّthe site of بَيتيmy house
مَحَلُّthe dwelling of اللَيثِthe lion مِنin وَسَطِthe midst of الغَريفِthe thicket
And amid the broad valleys stands my home,
And in the middle of the plain is my home,
A lion's dwelling in the heart of the thicket.
The home of the lion from the middle of the cliff.
وَفيand among كَعبٍKa'b وَمَنand who كَالحَيِّlike the clan of كَعبٍKa'b
حَلَلتُI settled on ذُؤابَةَthe crest of الجَبَلِthe mountain المُنيفِthe lofty
And among Ka'b—and who is like the clan of Ka'b?—
And in Kaab and whoever is like Kaab,
I have settled on the crest of the lofty mountain.
I made lawful the gazelle of the lofty mountain.
حَوَيتُI gathered فَخارَهاits glory غَوراًlowland وَنَجداًand upland
وَذلِكَand that مُنتَهىthe utmost extent of شَرَفِthe honor of الشَريفِthe nobleman
I have gathered its glory, in lowland and upland,
I protected its pride in the valley and plateau,
And that is the height of a nobleman's honor.
And that is the epitome of the honor of the noble one.
نَمانيbegot me كُلُّevery أَصيَدَproud noble لاnot ضَعيفٍweak
بِحَملِin shouldering المُعضِلاتِgrave difficulties وَلاnor عَنيفِharsh
Every proud noble begot me—none weak
I am the hunter of every prey, not weak,
In shouldering grave difficulties, nor harsh.
By carrying the firm spears, and not violent.
