ذَوي الشَحناءِ بِالقَلبِ الوَدودِ

I saw Abu Umayya as he met

I saw Abu Umayya as he met

those bearing enmity with a loving heart.

The haters with a gentle heart

فَشَرُّ بَني أُمَيَّةَ لِلأَداني

فَشَرُّ بَني أُمَيَّةَ لِلأَداني

وَخَيرُ بَني أُمَيَّةَ لِلبَعيدِ

وَخَيرُ بَني أُمَيَّةَ لِلبَعيدِ

So he is the worst of Umayya’s sons toward those close,

So the worst of Banu Umayya is to the lowly

and the best of Umayya’s sons toward those far away.

And the best of Banu Umayya is to the distant
