أَعَاذِلٌO reproacher إِنَّهُindeed it is مالٌwealth طَرِيفٌnewly acquired
أَعَاذِلٌ إِنَّهُ مالٌ طَرِيفٌ
أَحَبُّdearer إِلَيَّto me مِنْthan مالٍwealth تَلادِinherited
أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ مالٍ تَلادِ
O reproacher, it is indeed newly acquired wealth,
A lover, he is such amusing wealth,
Dearer to me than inherited wealth.
Dearer to me than inherited riches.
أَعَاذِلَO reproacher إِنَّماonly أَفْنَىconsumed شَبابِيmy youth
أَعَاذِلَ إِنَّما أَفْنَى شَبابِي
وَأَقرَحَand made sore عاتِقِيmy shoulder حَمْلُbearing النِّجادِthe sword-belt
وَأَقرَحَ عاتِقِي حَمْلُ النِّجادِ
O reproacher, nothing has consumed my youth
My lover only wasted my youth away
And made my shoulder sore but bearing the sword-belt.
And saddled my shoulders with the load of hardship.
