When the dawn star shines, you see him,

The crusher of foes, his forehead creased from prayer callouses,

Useful and destructive is he, and rising like a bright star,

When adversity strikes, deafness takes him, so he lingers.

Does this recompense you, or one in a face veil,

Or one with kohl around her eyes, greeting the day with coquetry?

It's as if the reddest of red attires lent her,

His pomegranate eyes when they dart.

He has the shade of leaning crooked branches,

When he wishes, he tilts his cheek, so it pillows.

He entertains them at dusk and dawn,

Whichever of the two is more generous.
