Ibn Bawzal says in the desert of al-Ḍubayb,
while tears stream from the eye from excess of longing:
أَتَبكيdo you weep? عَلىfor مَنone who لاnot تُدانيكَcomes near you دارُهُhis dwelling
وَمَنand one who شَعبُهُhis mountain valley عَنكَfrom you العَشِيَّةَthis evening نازِحُdistant
“Do you weep for one whose dwelling is not near you,
and whose mountain valley is far from you this evening?”
