وَلَو تَراني وَأَخي عُطارِدا

وَلَو تَراني وَأَخي عُطارِدا

نَذودُ مِن حَنيفَةِ المَذاوِدا

نَذودُ مِن حَنيفَةِ المَذاوِدا

And if only you could see me and my brother Utarid,

If you could see me and my brother Orion

We drive back Hanifa's defenders,

Driving away the assemblies of maidens

نَذودُ مِنها سِرعانا وارِدا

نَذودُ مِنها سِرعانا وارِدا

مِثلَ الدُبى تَتَّبِعُ المَوارِدا

مِثلَ الدُبى تَتَّبِعُ المَوارِدا

We drive back their vanguard as it advances,

Driving swiftly from them, only to return

Like locust nymphs following the watering places.

Like a wild beast tracking water-holes

أَلا فَتى يُسقى شَراباً بارِدا

أَلا فَتى يُسقى شَراباً بارِدا

أَنشُدُ كَفّاً قُطِعَت وَساعِدا

أَنشُدُ كَفّاً قُطِعَت وَساعِدا

Is there no young man to be given a cold drink?

Oh, a hero who drinks a cooling draft!

I seek a severed hand and a forearm;

I beg with hands cut off at the wrist:

أَنشُدُها وَلا أَراني واجِداً

أَنشُدُها وَلا أَراني واجِداً

أَبلِغ أَبا لَطيفَةِ المُعانِدا

أَبلِغ أَبا لَطيفَةِ المُعانِدا

I seek it, but do not see myself finding it.

I beg though I do not see myself obtaining

Tell Abu Latifa, the obstinate one,

Inform--defiant as he is-- Abul-Latif

المُطعِمَ السِتَّةَ مُدّاً واحِدا

المُطعِمَ السِتَّةَ مُدّاً واحِدا

Who feeds the six with a single mudd.

Who feeds the six, prolonging by one day.
