وعصبة عَصَمتهم في صناعتهم

by the goddess of beauty, so they took her features as their guide.

وخلَّدوا ذكر أرباب السيوف ومن

قاق الورى حجّةً أو فاقهم جاها

And they immortalized the memory of masters of the sword, and of whoever

And immortalized were the swordsmen of fame,

surpassed humankind in argument, or surpassed them in rank,

Those who surpassed the land's contention or excelled in glory,

أو خاض بحر المنايا فاجتنى درراً

وصاغ منها حُلى حسن بها باها

or waded into the sea of death and gathered pearls,

and fashioned from them ornaments of beauty in which he took pride;

Fashioning beautiful adornments that amazed all who saw,

أو غاص في لج بحر العلم مجتلياً

غوامض الكون تعميماً لجدواها

or dived into the depths of the sea of knowledge, uncovering

Or plunged into the sea of knowledge, grasping

the mysteries of the universe, to spread their benefits to all;

وآل علمٍ وفضلٍ جطار صيتهم

فطبَّق الكون أدناها وأقصاها

ودَّعتها وبنفسى من محاسنها

I bade her farewell, carrying in my soul, from her charms,

I bid them farewell, and within me from their beauty,

tokens of beauty whose remembrance stirs longing.
