تؤَرِّقُنِيkeep me awake بعدَafter العشاءِsupper همومُworries
كأنيas though I were لماbecause of what بينbetween الضلوعِthe ribs سقيمُill
Worries keep me awake after supper.
After dinner worries torment me
As though I were ill from what lies between my ribs.
As if I have sickness within my ribs
أبيتُI spend the night لهذاfor this لَوعةٍanguish وصَبابةٍand yearning
وفيand in كبدa liver منfrom حَرَّهُنَّtheir heat همومُworries
For this I spend the night in anguish and yearning.
I spend the night in sorrow and anxiety
And in my liver are worries from their burning heat.
In my liver are worries that heat it
أُبَكِّيI mourn شباباًyouth قدalready مضىhas passed هلwill ...? يعودُreturn ليto me
وهلand does ...? عَيشُlife حَيٍّa living being فيin الحياةِlife يدومُendure
I mourn youth that has passed—will it return to me?
I weep for a youth that is past, will it return to me?
And does a living being’s life in this world endure?
Does the life of the living in this life endure?
