وعيني لا تجفُ لها دموعٌ

معاقبةٌ سواكبُها غِزارُ

And my eye's tears never dry,

My eyes, their tears do not dry up

Following one another, their streams copious,

Punishing, their downpour is abundant

على وجهٍ تطيفُ به صِفاتِي

على وجهٍ تطيفُ به صِفاتِي

فتغرقُ في المحاسنِ أو تَحَارُ

فتغرقُ في المحاسنِ أو تَحَارُ

For a face around which my descriptions circle,

On a face, my qualities hover over

Then drown in its beauties or grow bewildered.

So they drown in beauty or get confused

كأنَّ الخمرَ يغذو وجنتيه

كأنَّ الخمرَ يغذو وجنتيه

وحسبُكَ ما تُزينُه العقارُ

وحسبُكَ ما تُزينُه العقارُ

As though wine nourished his cheeks,

As if wine nourishes his cheeks

And what wine adorns is enough for you.

And it suffices you what mint adorns it

كليلُ الطرفِ يجرحه إذا ما

تحَّيرَ فوق وجنتهِ أحمرارُ

Languid-eyed, he is wounded whenever

The sleepy eyes, it wounds them if

A blush lingers upon his cheek.

It lingers above his cheek, red

قضيب البانِ قامتُهُ ويخطو

بدعص نقا يغصُّ به الأزارُ

بدعص نقا يغصُّ به الأزارُ

His stature is a bān-tree bough, and he walks

The cane's straight body and it walks

With a mound of sand that strains his waistcloth.

With a thin, erect branch that fills his wrap
