ولقد عرفت القائلين وقولهم

ولقد عرفت القائلين وقولهم

وفهمت ما ذكروا من الأسباب

وفهمت ما ذكروا من الأسباب

And I have indeed known the speakers and their words,

I have known the speakers and their words,

And understood the reasons they mentioned.

And understood the reasons they cite.

فإذا القرابة لا تقرب قاطعاً

فإذا القرابة لا تقرب قاطعاً

وإذا المودة أقرب الأنساب

وإذا المودة أقرب الأنساب

Then behold: kinship does not bring close one who severs ties,

Yet kinship brings no closeness to one who severs,

And behold: affection is the closest of kinship bonds.

While friendship is closer than family ties.
