So I told him, “You have tasked me beyond my craft,

just as they entrusted Yukhāmir with passing judgment.”

So he became bewildered amid the paths of caprice,

struggling with a deep, surging expanse of the sea.

So I said, “If only you sought release from it!” He told me,

“I shall expose whatever you have done amiss.”

So I told him, “The height of disgrace is your remaining

over us like this, without knowledge, stubbornly defiant,

and your blind blundering in God’s religion—

like the blundering of a drunkard who spoke heedlessly.

For flies will never carry rocks, nor will you see the

tortoises propelling the ships that cleave the waves.”
