أَنجِز فَدَيتُكَ ما وَعَدتَ فَإِنَّ لي

في المَطلِ وَالإِنجازِ قَولاً حاضِرا

Fulfill, may I be your ransom, what you promised, for I have

Fulfill what you have promised me, for I have

words at the ready on delay and fulfillment.

A telling remark about procrastinating or acting promptly.

وَاِعلَم بَأَنَّ مِنَ الحِزامَةِ لِلفَتى

وَاِعلَم بَأَنَّ مِنَ الحِزامَةِ لِلفَتى

أَلا يَرُدَّ بَغَيرِ نَجحٍ شاعِرا

أَلا يَرُدَّ بَغَيرِ نَجحٍ شاعِرا

And know that it is prudent for a young man

And know that it is a mark of manliness

not to turn a poet away empty-handed.

That a poet not be turned away unsatisfied.
