شغل العدا بتشتت الأحزاب

والله ناصرنا بسيف عرابى

The foes are preoccupied with the factions' dispersal,

and God grants us victory through Urabi's sword.

والقطر فيه من الرجال كفاءة

للحادثات فهم أولواالألباب

And the land has men of competence

to meet calamities, for they are people of understanding.

وحمية الاسلام تقضى بالوفا

حتما على كل امرىء أواب

And zeal for Islam makes fidelity

a binding duty upon every repentant man.

ومحبة الوطن العزيز تحثهم

والفتح اذن باتباع صواب

And love of the dear homeland urges them on,

and victory, then, comes by following what is right.

والمشركون خواسر فى سعيهم

هزموا وقد نكصوا على الأعقاب

And the polytheists are losers in their striving;

they were defeated and have turned back on their heels.

هيا بنا يا أهل مصر الى الرضا

والفوز فى العقبى بغير حساب

Come, people of Egypt, let us seek divine favor,

and success in the hereafter without reckoning.

أنتم أولو الهمم التى بسهامها

كم من عدو آب شر اياب

You possess lofty resolve, by whose arrows

many a foe has made the worst of returns.

أنتم ولاة المجد أرباب النهى

والحر يظهر عند صدم مصاب

You are guardians of glory, masters of reason,

and the free man is revealed when calamity strikes.

لا تشغلنكم الحياة فانها

ذل لمن يرضى بهتك جناب

Let life never distract you, for it is

humiliation for one who accepts the violation of his honor.

ولقد يرى اخواننا فى حالة

تحتاج للاعوان والأصحاب

And indeed our brothers are seen in a condition

that needs helpers and companions.

أعنى عساكرنا الكرام ومن أتوا

متطوعين لهم من الأعراب

I mean our noble troops, and those who came

as volunteers for them from among the Bedouin,

والعاملين لهذه الخيرات من

عمد البلاد وسائر الأحباب

and those working for these good deeds, from among

the country's headmen and all dear friends.

حسب الاعانة فى الأفاضل قدوة

شمس المفاخر شيخنا الانبابي

A sufficient exemplar of aid among the virtuous is

the sun of glorious deeds, our sheikh al-Inbabi.

فعل الجميل ولم يكن فى فعله

هذا بمفتخر ولا مرتاب

He did good, and was not, in performing

this deed, either boastful or doubtful.

وجناب قاضى مصر سيف شريعة

يسطو على كل امرىء متغابى

And His Honor, Egypt's judge, is a sword of sacred law,

striking at every man who feigns ignorance.

ومحقق الفتوى محرر مذهب

النعمان بالايضاح للطلاب

And the verifier of legal opinions, the exact expositor of the school

of al-Nu'man, elucidating it for students.

والسيد البكرى تاج نقابة الأشراف

أهل المجد والأنساب

And Sayyid al-Bakri, crown of the sharifs' guild,

people of glory and noble lineages;

والخيرة السادات بيت مناقب

عقدت لها العليا رفيع قباب

and the distinguished Sadat, a house of noble virtues,

for which high glory has raised lofty domes.

والهجرسى له سوابق همة

جمعت نظام الفخر والآداب

And al-Hijrisi has past deeds of lofty resolve,

which have strung together glory and refinement.

أنعم بطائفة التجار وقل لهم

شكرت أياديكم كغيث سحاب

How excellent is the company of merchants! Say to them:

Your benefactions, like rain from clouds, are gratefully acknowledged.

واذكر لتتميم الكرام فتى من الجيزا

وذاك محمد بن عرابى

And to complete the noble company, mention a young man from Giza,

namely Muhammad ibn Urabi.

وأفاضل بذلوا الاعانة غيرهم

فى حصرهم نصب على الكتاب

And worthy men besides them have given assistance;

enumerating them is a toil for the scribes.

نعم البرنسات الكرام وما لهم

فى الدهر من شرف ومن آداب

How excellent are the noble princes, and what they possess

of honor and refinement throughout time!

جمعوا بتنظيماتهم شمل الورى

من بعد ما انحلت عرى النواب

They united the people's ranks through their arrangements,

after the bonds of the deputies had unraveled.

هو من علمت مجاهد بمهند

ترك الرءوس مواطىء الاذناب

He is the one you know, a warrior with an Indian-steel sword,

who left the heads as places for the tails to tread.

وسيوفهم مسلولة بأكابر

فى المجد من علمائنا الأقطاب

And their swords are unsheathed by eminent men

of glory among our scholars, the spiritual poles.

يكفيك قدوتنا عليش وشيخنا

حسن الوفا العدوى خير مثاب

Our exemplar Illish and our sheikh suffice you—

Hasan al-Adawi, faithful and most richly rewarded.

والشهم ابراهيم فوزى أنه

في ضبط مصر أصاب خير صواب

And gallant Ibrahim Fawzi: indeed he

has chosen the soundest course in keeping Egypt in order.

وعلى الروبى الرضا وسميه

يرضيك فهمى فى سديد جواب

And Ali al-Rubi, the worthy one, and his namesake—

Fahmi—pleases you with a sound reply.

يا ربنا عجل لدينا نصره

واجعل له الحسنى بخير مآب

O our Lord, hasten his victory for us,

and grant him the finest reward with the best final return.

وبآل بيت محمد رد العدا

وارسل عليهم منك سوط عذاب

And by Muhammad's household, repel the foes,

and send upon them from Yourself a scourge of torment.

وبعبد غفار أبد شمل العدا

وارحم برحمى معشرى وصحابى

And by Abd Ghaffar, annihilate the foes' assembled ranks,

and through Rahmi show mercy to my people and my companions.

وامدد عساكرنا باعظم قوة

ي عالماً بالقانت الأواب

And reinforce our troops with the greatest strength,

O Knower of the devout, ever-repentant one.

واشدد عراهم بالخليفة انه

متكفل بالنصر للأحزاب

And strengthen their bonds through the caliph, for he

has undertaken to secure victory for the factions.

يا ناصر السلطان دونك والعلا

فجنابها بك ثابت الأطناب

O supporter of the Sultan, take up exalted glory,

for its precinct's tent-ropes stand firm through you.

هذي مآثرك الجميلة زينت

رمضان بالترغيب والارهاب

These beautiful deeds of yours have adorned

Ramadan with encouragement and intimidation.

لثمان عشر منه قد أرختها

بالله نصرتنا وسيف عرابى

On its eighteenth day I recorded their date:

Our victory is through God and Urabi's sword.
