    Who will tend a heart grown dejected and sad,

    Distraught with love, between the uvula and the collarbones?

    O Umm Sallam, never have I remembered you without

    The corners of my eyes choking with tears.

    أَنتِ دائي وَفي لِسانِكِ راقي

    O Umm Sallam, I remember you wherever you are;

    You are my ailment, and in your tongue is my healer.

    For fear that Salma’s dwelling might appear before me,

    And the world bring her separation.
