Umm Sallām, reward a lover.
O mother of Salam, I have fallen in love
God, his Lord, knows for certain
God knows for certain that you are his Lord
أَنَّكُمthat you (plural) مِنof عَيشِهِhis life فيwithin نَفسِهِhis soul
ياO سُلَيمىSulaymā فَاِعلَميهِso know it حَسبُهُenough for him
That you, within his soul, are all the life
That you are his life and soul
He needs—O Sulaymā, so know this.
O Suleima, let him know this is enough
فَاِرحَميهِso have mercy on him إِنَّهُindeed he يَهذيraves بِكُمabout you (plural)

So have mercy on him: he raves about you.
So have mercy on him, for he raves about you
He wanders, lovesick; his heart has perished.
Infatuated, pouring out, his heart consumed
أَنتِyou (feminine) لَوif كُنتِyou were (feminine) لَهُto him راحِمَةًmerciful
لَمnot يكَدِّرbe muddied ياO سُلَيمىSulaymā شِربُهُhis draught
If you were merciful to him,
If you were kind to him
His draught would not be muddied, O Sulaymā.
Suleima, his drinking would not be bitter
