قامَت إِلَيَّ بِتَقبيلٍ تُعانِقُني

قامَت إِلَيَّ بِتَقبيلٍ تُعانِقُني

رَيّا العِظامِ كَأَنَّ المِسكِ في فيها

رَيّا العِظامِ كَأَنَّ المِسكِ في فيها

She rose toward me with kisses, embracing me,

She rose to me with a kiss embracing me

Full-fleshed of frame, as though musk were in her mouth.

Her scent permeating my bones as though musk filled her mouth

أَدخُل فَدَيتُكَ لا يَشعُر بِنا أَحَدٌ

أَدخُل فَدَيتُكَ لا يَشعُر بِنا أَحَدٌ

نَفسي لِنَفسِكَ مِن داءٍ تُفَدّيها

نَفسي لِنَفسِكَ مِن داءٍ تُفَدّيها

"Come in—may I be your ransom; no one will notice us.

Let me sacrifice myself for you, no one is aware of us

My soul would ransom yours from illness."

My soul for your soul, curing an illness that afflicts her

بِتنا كَذلِكَ لا نَومٌ عَلى سُرُرٍ

بِتنا كَذلِكَ لا نَومٌ عَلى سُرُرٍ

مِن شِدَّةِ الوَجدِ تُدنيني وَأُدنيها

مِن شِدَّةِ الوَجدِ تُدنيني وَأُدنيها

We spent the night thus, sleepless upon beds,

Thus we spent the night sleepless on our beds

From the intensity of passion, she drew me close, and I drew her close,

From intense passion drawing me near and I drawing her near

حَتّى إِذا ما بَدا الخَيطانِ قُلتُ لَها

حَتّى إِذا ما بَدا الخَيطانِ قُلتُ لَها

حانَ الفِراقُ فَكادَ الحُزنُ يُشجيها

حانَ الفِراقُ فَكادَ الحُزنُ يُشجيها

Until, when the two threads appeared, I said to her:

Until the first light appeared I said to her

"The hour of parting has come"—and sorrow nearly overwhelmed her.

Parting draws nigh, grief almost bursting her apart

ثُمَّ اَنصَرَفت وَلَم يَشعُر بِنا أَحَدٌ

ثُمَّ اَنصَرَفت وَلَم يَشعُر بِنا أَحَدٌ

وَاللَهُ عَنّي بِحُسنِ الفِعلِ يَجزيها

وَاللَهُ عَنّي بِحُسنِ الفِعلِ يَجزيها

Then I departed, and no one was aware of us;

Then she left and no one was aware of us

And may God reward her on my behalf for her good deed.

And may Allah reward her for her good deeds
