أُمَّO mother of سَلّامَSallām لَوif لَقيتِyou had suffered مِنَof الوَجlonging (continued in the next line)
أُمَّ سَلّامَ لَو لَقيتِ مِنَ الوَج
دِ(completes 'longing') عَشيرَa tenth of الَّذيwhat لَقيتُI suffered بَراكِit would have wasted you away
دِ عَشيرَ الَّذي لَقيتُ بَراكِ
O Umm Sallām, had you suffered from longing
O Umm Salam, if you meet a tribe from Wajd
A tenth of what I suffered, it would have wasted you away.
Like the one I met—may its morning be blessed!—

فَأَثيبي بِالوُدِّ صَبّاً عَميداً

مُستَهاماً لَم يَشجُهُ ما شَجاكِ
So reward with affection a lovesick, stricken man,
Then reward their cordial love with cordial love,
Lost in love, not grieved by what grieved you.
A long-standing love that hardships could not diminish.
أَنتِyou تَفدينَyou ransom عَبدَʿAbd (a name) مِنfrom كُلِّevery خَيرٍgood thing

وَمِنَ السوءِ هِيَ تَكونُ فِداكِ
You ransom ʿAbd from every good thing,
You ransom a slave with all that is good;
And from evil she shall be your ransom.
From evil, it is you who ransom him.
