أَنا النَذيرُ لِمُسدي نِعمَةٍ أَبَداً

أَنا النَذيرُ لِمُسدي نِعمَةٍ أَبَداً

إِلى المَقاريفِ ما لَم يَخبِرُ الدَخَلا

إِلى المَقاريفِ ما لَم يَخبِرُ الدَخَلا

I warn anyone who ever bestows a favor

I am the warner of those who abuse blessings forever

on the baseborn without discerning their hidden corruption.

To the wasteful until the frugal informs them

إِن أَنتَ أَكرَمتَهُم أَلفَيتَهُم بُطُراً

إِن أَنتَ أَكرَمتَهُم أَلفَيتَهُم بُطُراً

وَإِن أَهَنتَهُم أَلفَيتَهُم ذُلُلا

وَإِن أَهَنتَهُم أَلفَيتَهُم ذُلُلا

If you honor them, you find them arrogant and ungrateful;

If you honor them, you find them insolent

and if you abase them, you find them submissive.

And if you humiliate them, you find them submissive

أَتَشمَخونَ وَمِنّا أَصلُ نِعمَتُكُم

أَتَشمَخونَ وَمِنّا أَصلُ نِعمَتُكُم

سَتَعلَمونَ إِذا صِرتُم لَنا خَوَلا

سَتَعلَمونَ إِذا صِرتُم لَنا خَوَلا

Do you hold your heads high, though we are the source of your bounty?

Do you act arrogantly while we are the source of your blessings?

You will learn when you become our servants.

You will know when we become disloyal to you

أُنظُر فَإِن أَنتَ لَم تَقدِر عَلى مَثلٍ

أُنظُر فَإِن أَنتَ لَم تَقدِر عَلى مَثلٍ

لَهُم سِوى الكَلبِ فَاِضرِبهُ لَهُم مَثَلا

لَهُم سِوى الكَلبِ فَاِضرِبهُ لَهُم مَثَلا

Consider: if you can find no comparison

Look, if you cannot find for them an example

for them but a dog, then set it forth as their likeness.

Other than a dog, then cite it as an example for them

بَيناً يُسَمِّنُهُ لِلصَيدِ صاحِبُهُ

بَيناً يُسَمِّنُهُ لِلصَيدِ صاحِبُهُ

حَتّى إِذا ما قَوِيَ مِن بَعدِ ما هَزُلا

حَتّى إِذا ما قَوِيَ مِن بَعدِ ما هَزُلا

While its master was fattening it for the hunt,

While its owner fattens it for hunting

when at last it grew strong after being lean,

Until when it grows strong after it had waned

عَدا عَلَيهِ فَلَم تَضرُرهُ عَدوَتُهُ

عَدا عَلَيهِ فَلَم تَضرُرهُ عَدوَتُهُ

وَلَو أَطاقَ لَهُ أَكلاً لَقَد أَكَلا

وَلَو أَطاقَ لَهُ أَكلاً لَقَد أَكَلا

it turned on him, but its attack did him no harm;

It attacked him but its hostility did not harm him

and had it been able to devour him, it surely would have.

And had it been able to eat him, it would have eaten him
