Dwellings where Sulayma may stay,
Dwellings where Suleima once dwelled
Effaced—the years have ravaged them.
Are now inhabited by strangers
أُميتُI put to death السِرَّthe secret حِفظاًfor safekeeping ياO سُلَيمىSulayma
أُميتُ السِرَّ حِفظاً يا سُلَيمى

إِذا ما السِرُّ باحَ بِهِ الحَزونُ
I put the secret to death to safeguard it, O Sulayma,
Keep my secret, O Suleima
When the sorrowful one divulges the secret.
Lest the grieved reveal it through their mourning
