Beguile me, you two, and give me drink,

    Of Isfahani wine,

Of the wine of old Kisra,

    Or the wine of Kairouan.

And mix the cup, but do not add too

    Much of the Ascalonian admixture.

Surely there is musk in the cup,

Or in the palms of the one who gave me drink,

Or it was indeed left in it

When the wine was poured into the jars.

    Garland me, crown me,

And sing to me with my poetry.

Set me free with my bonds,

And bind me with my rein.

    The cup is but springtime,

    Passed around with the fingertips.

And the cup’s intoxicating heat has crept

Between my foot and my tongue.
