أَلا لَيتَ الإِلهَ يُحينُ سَلمى

أَلا لَيتَ الإِلهَ يُحينُ سَلمى

فَإِنَّ اللَهَ يَفعَلُ ما يَشاءُ

فَإِنَّ اللَهَ يَفعَلُ ما يَشاءُ

Ah, would that God brought Salma to her end,

Oh my friend, if only God would return Salma

For God does whatever He wills.

For truly, God does whatever He wills

فَيُخرِجُها فَيَطرَحُها بِأَرضٍ

فَيُخرِجُها فَيَطرَحُها بِأَرضٍ

وَيُرقِدُها وَقَد سَقَطَ الرِداءُ

وَيُرقِدُها وَقَد سَقَطَ الرِداءُ

Then brought her out and cast her on the ground,

He would bring her out and lay her on the ground

And put her to sleep, her cloak already fallen away,

And let her rest, her clothes fallen away

وَيَأتي بي فَيَطرَحُني عَلَيها

وَيَأتي بي فَيَطرَحُني عَلَيها

فَأوقِظُها وَقَد قُضِيَ القَضاءُ

فَأوقِظُها وَقَد قُضِيَ القَضاءُ

And brought me and cast me upon her.

And He would bring me and lay me down upon her

Then I would awaken her, the decree already fulfilled,

I would wake her though fate had run its course

وَيُرسِلُ دَيمَةً سَحّاً عَلَينا

وَيُرسِلُ دَيمَةً سَحّاً عَلَينا

فَيَغسِلُنا فَلا يَبقى العَناءُ

فَيَغسِلُنا فَلا يَبقى العَناءُ

And He would send a steady rain pouring down upon us,

He would send a gentle rain to wash over us

Then wash us, so that no hardship remained.

Cleansing us so no sorrow would remain
