Stand with me, O Time, by God, and sob.

And cry out for your tears to pour from your eyes.

Stand still, O Time, and do not marvel, for there is nothing in what

I say to you that calls for wonder.

Your anniversary, my guide, has passed, and our call

Revels in victory, in its fresh reward.

Though you, my guide, have left us in body,

[Unclear: “blossoms, deficiency”]; for you have never been absent from us.

Twenty years in which, O finest preacher,

You forged for the East a crown of glory from gold.

    You called for truth, and the days bear witness;

You sought nothing but truth in your quest.

You aimed at no gain in what you preached,

Nor did you preach for status or wealth.

Rather, you hoped for the Creator's reward,

And recompense for all the toil you had offered.

O savior of the East from a calamity that befell it,

Without you, the East would have come close to being aflame.

You preached while the people were a varied throng,

Ranging from the greedy among them to the hungry.

Yet you did not grow weary from the hardship you faced,

Nor did you falter before calamitous time.

O guide of people toward earnestness in an age

When the souls of mankind inclined to play,

O awakener and leader of the great revival,

You revived the spirit of piety, knowledge, and literature

In the soul of a generation estranged from every noble deed,

Bereft of honesty, inclined to lying.

It did not know what religion was, through ignorance and folly,

And even when the callers to goodness summoned it, it did not respond.

As though deaf to God's call,

Until Sha'ban complained of that deafness to Rajab.

You revived the spirit of glory in the East once more,

And glory did not come by chance, without a cause.

You were truly the pivot of the East's revival,

And does the millstone turn except upon its pivot?

O people, here is Palestine telling us

A wondrous tale of the Brotherhood's sincerity.

By God, O band of the Brotherhood, how did

The Jews fare in your midst, before the chosen, noble men?

O people, twenty men in the field did not falter,

Nor did they yield before the clamorous army.

O people [text: “speech”], twenty soldiers have stormed

The camp of unbelief, until it cried, “Alas, my ruin!”

And “God is greatest!” drives them on in the field

Toward victories, at a gallop and a trot.

    Palestine's plight speaks to us:

God be praised for what the Brotherhood did in the Negev!

They marched to purify God's House once more,

As the best of prophets had journeyed there by night before.

And so the pulpit of the al-Aqsa Mosque

Calls to them; its trust in God's soldiers was not disappointed.

O people, twenty men were alone on the battlefield,

And the enemy withdrew, one retreating foe after another.

You were asked in childhood, like others, a question

About the dearest wish you longed to attain.

You were among companions, most of whom said:

“Indeed, I aspire to a lofty rank.”

Your concern was to awaken the Sharia from

Sleep; you were a man of heart, though still a boy.

And you began calling for what the Messenger called for,

So you were truly the imam of non-Arabs and Arabs.

They thought that killing you would dim the light of our call,

So they could rest easy—such is every fool's thinking.

How many an Abu Jahl has met death, defeated,

Before our call; how many an Abu Lahab!

Do they think that God will leave them

To do as they please in diversion and merriment?

Whoever seeks to extinguish God's light—[unclear: “in him, deficiency”]—

Death—and the Almighty casts him into the flames.

    Farouk's defeat is not hidden

From us, nor how he came to the worst fate.

This is God's protected ground, O transgressor, and His inviolable precinct.

And God watches closely whoever disobeys Him.

Your Lord has prepared a fire without equal

For everyone drawing near to it with evil intent.
