When we met together, with night concealing us,

When we met at night, shrouded in darkness,

In shadows from its gloom, with blessings in their folds,

Beneath its wings we found a gentle shelter.

بتنا أعفّ مبيت باته بشر

ولا مراقب إلا الطّرف والكرم

ولا مراقب إلا الطّرف والكرم

We spent the chastest night ever spent by a mortal,

We spent the night innocently together,

With no watcher but the eye and honor.

With no observer but honor and nobility.

فلا مشى من وشى عند العذول بنا

فلا مشى من وشى عند العذول بنا

ولا سعت بالذي يسعى بنا قدم

ولا سعت بالذي يسعى بنا قدم

So may whoever slandered us before the reproacher never walk,

No gossip could arise from our chaste union,

Nor may a foot carry the one who bears tales against us.

Nor any footstep follow our virtuous steps.
