    Sleep, my son, sleep.

    I'll slaughter doves for you.

    My son, sleep in peace.

    And enjoy sweet slumber.

    يرعاك باري الانام

    Sleep, O scion of the noble;

The Creator of all beings watches over you.

    Sleep, my little Wahid,

    Son of the illustrious emir,

    And branch of that Bashir,

    And son of mighty forebears.

    O joy to your family,

And solace of your father's heart,

    Our dreams are in you,

    And you are dreaming.

    How many a guardian angel

    Around this bed

    Watches over your blooming youth

With an eye that never sleeps.

And though the angel watches over you,

He is none other than your brother:

    His radiance is like yours,

And his essence takes form in you.

    From your radiant face

    And your ever-smiling mouth.

    How lovely is this radiance!

    Around it hover the hopes

    Of days to come.

    And O glances of Wahid,

    Revealing what he desires,

    And in them lies more

    Than eloquent speech.

    أندى من الاقحوان

    How soft are these fingertips,

    Dewier than chrysanthemums;

    Time gazes upon them

    With an eye of reverence,

    Readying them for a pen

That will gain greatness from them,

Or to take up a banner,

    Or to unsheathe a sword.

    My son, cub of lions,

    Deep within those tombs,

You have made those bones rejoice.

    My eye loves staying awake

In the light of the moon.

    O Lord, grant Wahid

A life of bliss and peace.
