Jamal has come to us, O Thurayya, with his terror.
A beauty came to us, oh Thuriya, in its splendor
In what ravine, then, shall I hide your beauty from him?
So in which ravine could I hide your beauty from it?
وياand O روعتيmy dread إنif بلغوهthey report to him وشايةًa denunciation
وبتand I became سجيناًa prisoner لاnot أقيمI remain حيللكbefore you (uncertain reading)
And oh, my dread, if they carry a denunciation to him,
And oh, my delight - if they reach it with gossip
And I became a prisoner, no longer in your presence.
You would become imprisoned, unable to help yourself
وماand not روعتيmy fear منof قائدcommander الجيشthe army غيرexcept أنthat
تروحيyou go إليهto him تبذلينyou offer سؤالكyour plea
And my only fear of the army's commander is that
And my delight is nothing but the army commander
You go to him, offering your plea,
You should go to him and question him
وتجثينand you kneel منfor أجليmy sake لديهbefore him ضراعةًhumble supplication

And kneel before him for my sake in supplication,
And prostrate yourself before him for my sake
So he may pardon my sin and pity your plight.
That he may forgive my sin and have mercy on your plight

I swear by my Lord: if you seek his presence,
I swear by my Lord that if you meet with him
And your sandals grow dusty with that dust,
And touch that dust with your slippers

ويصرمand will sever قلبيmy heart ياO ثرياThurayya حبالكyour bonds
Then I shall surely cast my lifeblood into his snares,
I would fling my love into his ropes
And my heart, O Thurayya, will sever its bonds with you;
And my heart is squeezed, oh Thuriya, by your ropes
وانكرand I deny ماwhat تروينهyou recount it عنabout براءتيmy innocence
وأشرحand I explain آثاميmy sins وأنفيand I refute مقالكyour words
And I will deny what you relate about my innocence,
And deny what you say about my innocence
And spell out my sins and refute your words.
And confess my sins and refute your words

By your Lord, keep your face unshamed until
For your sake preserve your face’s water until
I meet death; then do whatever you please.
I meet doom, then do what suits you
