O cawing bird, what do you say?

For each of us is both questioner and questioned.

May God never clothe you in feathers as long as you live.

And in fear may you spend the night, then rest at noon.

Then may you never hatch a chick in the nest,

ever, unless it gives you away.

When you tell me that Hind is near,

the messenger can obtain from her what is sought.

And Hind went far away; then you told me of her

that the bond of love would fade away.
