What can I do about the fickle one who wrongs me?

And if he wrongs me, I have no protector against him.

His affection shifts like the clouds,

And his pledge is deceptive as a mirage.

Just when I felt safest from him, he took me unawares

With his treachery—and [unclear word in the Arabic].

My aid against him is streaming tears

And a sigh whose heat surpasses fire.
