صَدّوه وهو صَدي الفؤاد إليهمُ

صَدّوه وهو صَدي الفؤاد إليهمُ

ظَامٍ يَحُومُ عليهمُ ويلوذُ

ظَامٍ يَحُومُ عليهمُ ويلوذُ

They spurned him, though his heart thirsted for them;

They spurned him though he yearned for them,

thirsting, he circles around them and seeks refuge.

A darkness hovered over them in which he took refuge,

وبعَهْدِهم إن حافَظُوا ميثاقَه

وبعَهْدِهم إن حافَظُوا ميثاقَه

زمنَ الوِصالِ من الصّدود يعوذُ

زمنَ الوِصالِ من الصّدود يعوذُ

And in their pledge—if they honor its covenant

And if they kept their pact with him,

from the time of union—he seeks refuge from rejection.

In days of union he would take refuge from repulses,

وبَليَّةُ المشتاقِ أنّ هَمومَه

وبَليَّةُ المشتاقِ أنّ هَمومَه

مجموعةٌ وفؤادَه مشذُوذُ

مجموعةٌ وفؤادَه مشذُوذُ

And the yearning lover’s affliction is that his cares

Yet the lover's affliction is that his cares

are gathered together, while his heart is scattered.

Are manifold, while his heart is utterly riven.
