فعلامَso why لونُthe hue الشَّيبِof gray hair ليسdoes not يروقُplease
The plants turned snow-white, and the hue of their gray hair was pleasing;
so why is the hue of gray hair not pleasing?
ماnot ذَاكَthat إلاّexcept أنَّbecause ذَاthis one داعٍbeckoning إلىtoward
طِيبِthe sweetness of السُّرورِjoy وذاكwhile that one عنهُfrom it يَعُوقُholds back
That is only because this one beckons toward
the sweetness of joy, while that one bars the way to it.
وإذاand when أخُوa man with الشَّيبِgray hair استَجابresponds للذَّةٍto pleasure
ومسرَّةٍand delight فسرورُهُthen his joy مسروقُstolen
And when a gray-haired man responds to pleasure
and delight, his is a stolen joy.
