O you whose affection is a passing cloud,

O you whose affection is a passing cloud

And whose pledges in love are a shrinking shadow.

And your vows of love are a fading shadow

هَل في القَضّيةِ أنَّ حُبّك زائِدٌ

هَل في القَضّيةِ أنَّ حُبّك زائِدٌ

أبداً وحَظّي كلَّ يومٍ نَاقصُ

أبداً وحَظّي كلَّ يومٍ نَاقصُ

Is it decreed that my love for you should grow

Is it true that your love for me increases

Forever, while my share diminishes each day?

While my share decreases day after day?

وتشوبُ وُدَّكَ بالقَطيعةِ والقِلَى

وتشوبُ وُدَّكَ بالقَطيعةِ والقِلَى

وهواكَ من كلَّ الشّوائِبِ خَالِصُ

وهواكَ من كلَّ الشّوائِبِ خَالِصُ

And you taint your affection with estrangement and aversion,

And you blemish your affection with separation and estrangement

While my love for you is free of every taint.

Yet your passion remains pure of all impurities
