يَاO لائِميyou who reproach me أُنْظُرlook إلىat قَمرٍa moon
يَا لائِمي أُنْظُر إلى قَمرٍ
فيon الأرضِthe earth فيin وجنَاتِهhis cheeks شَفَقُtwilight's glow
في الأرضِ في وجنَاتِه شَفَقُ
O you who reproach me, look at a moon
On earth, with twilight's glow in his cheeks.
وبخدِّهِand on his cheek وَردٌa rose إذاwhen نَظَرَتْlooks
وبخدِّهِ وَردٌ إذا نَظَرَتْ
عَينيmy eye إليهat him تَناثَرscatter الورَقُthe petals
عَيني إليه تَناثَر الورَقُ
And on his cheek is a rose; when
My eye looks at him, the petals scatter.
سبحانَGlory be to مَنHim who أذكىkindled بوجنتهِin his cheek
سبحانَ مَن أذكى بوجنتهِ
نارَthe fire الحياءِof modesty وليسَyet he does not يَحتَرقُburn
نارَ الحياءِ وليسَ يَحتَرقُ
Glory be to Him who kindled in his cheek
The fire of modesty, yet he does not burn.
