أأحبَابنَاO our beloved ones ماnot أشتكِيI complain بعدafter بُعدِكُمْyour being far away
سوىexcept أنَّنِيthat I باقٍstill living ولُبِّيَand my reason حَاضرُpresent
O our beloved ones, since parting from you I complain of nothing
I do not complain, my friends, of your absence after parting,
Except that I live on, and my reason remains intact.
Except that I remain while my heart is present.
وماand not هكذَاthus يَقضِيdecrees وفَائِيmy loyalty وإنّماbut rather
جَرَتْproceeded بهواهاaccording to their desire لاnot هَوايَmy desire المقادِرُthe decrees of fate
And my loyalty does not decree this; rather,
And this is not how my loyalty ends, but rather
The decrees of fate have followed their own desire, not mine.
My destiny has followed its passions, not my own.
وقدand indeed كانthere were للبَينِfor the separation المُشِتِّthe sundering أوائلٌbeginnings
وليسand there are no لهfor it حتّىuntil المماتِdeath أواخرُendings
And the sundering separation had its beginnings,
Separation's sharp pangs had a beginning,
And it has no end until death.
But even death will not end them.
