O Muhadhdhab [“those who” is unclear here], listen to one who reproaches you.
O you who rebuke the one who listened from the reproacher
Were it not for love of you, he would voice no reproach.
If not for your love, he would not understand the reproach

Do you obey Time against me, though, as you see,
Do you obey time as you see
it condemns me to separation from loved ones?
It judges me by separating dear friends

You have wearied me and made your intoxication an excuse
and risen—or did you not find my wine pleasing?
And got up, did you not make my wine lawful?

freely offering an excuse and amends,
Justifying with the excuse and reproach

متنمسا بالماء والمحراب
I shall surely forbid myself aged wine and rise at dawn,
I will forbid myself wine and take to asceticism
feigning piety with water and the prayer niche.
Bathing myself with water at the prayer niche

And you will deliberately bear the sin of my asceticism,
And incur the sin of my asceticism
and its disgrace—what a grievous fault it is!
And its shame is greater for me than shame
