يَاO ربِّmy Lord خُذtake بِيَديby my hand مِنfrom ظُلمِinjustice مُقتَدِرٍone with power
يَا ربِّ خُذ بِيَدي مِن ظُلمِ مُقتَدِرٍ
عَلَيَّover me قَدindeed لَجَّpersisted obstinately فيin صَدّيspurning me وَهجرانِيand forsaking me
عَلَيَّ قَد لَجَّ في صَدّي وَهجرانِي
O Lord, take my hand and save me from the cruelty of one with power
Over me, who has persisted in spurning and forsaking me.
لَيِّنْsoften قَساوَتَهhis harshness لِيtoward me أَوor فَيَسِّرْthen make easy ليfor me
لَيِّنْ قَساوَتَه لِي أَو فَيَسِّرْ لي
صَبراًpatience لأَحظىso that I may attain بِوَصْلٍwith union أَوor بِسُلوانِwith solace
صَبراً لأَحظى بِوَصْلٍ أَو بِسُلوانِ
Soften his harshness toward me, or else grant me
Patience, that I may attain union or solace.
أَوor فَاِطْفِthen extinguish جَمرةَthe ember خَدَّيهِhis two cheeks وأَيقِظْand awaken جَفْhis two eyelids (first fragment)
أَو فَاِطْفِ جَمرةَ خَدَّيهِ وأَيقِظْ جَفْ
نَيْهِhis two eyelids (final fragment) اللّذينِwhich (dual) أَراقَاboth spilled ماءَthe water أَجفانيmy eyelids
نَيْهِ اللّذينِ أَراقَا ماءَ أَجفاني
Or quench the ember of his cheeks, and awaken his eye-
lids, which have spilled the water of my eyelids.
