O abode, you are where everyone once dwelt,

and in your precincts were the boys and retainers.

And you were a spring pasture for guests and seekers of aid,

whom hospitality and generosity would lead toward you.

You have become a wasteland, and your people have scattered,

like Saba's scattered bands; resolve has turned from seeking you.

How strange is time! The life of all mankind—

whether its turns bring them joy or sorrow—is a dream.
