خَلِيليَّ زُورَا بي رُوَيْقَةَ إنّني

إليها على قُربِ الزّيارةِ شَيِّقُ

إليها على قُربِ الزّيارةِ شَيِّقُ

My two friends, take me to visit Ruwayqa, for I

My friend, let us visit Roaika soon

yearn for her, despite having visited her recently.

For I long to be near her, my joy and delight

خَلِيليَّ ما ألتذُّ عيشاً ولاَ لَهُ

خَلِيليَّ ما ألتذُّ عيشاً ولاَ لَهُ

إذَا ما نَأت عني رُويقةُ رَوْنَقُ

إذَا ما نَأت عني رُويقةُ رَوْنَقُ

My two friends, I find no pleasure in life, nor has it—

My friend, nothing brings me comfort or cheer

when Ruwayqa is far from me—any luster.

When distant from Roaika, that vision of light

إذا بَرزتْ بين النّساءِ حَسِبتَها

إذا بَرزتْ بين النّساءِ حَسِبتَها

هي الشّمسُ أو مِن وجهها الشّمسُ تُشرِقُ

هي الشّمسُ أو مِن وجهها الشّمسُ تُشرِقُ

When she appears among the women, you would think

Among women she stands like the sun at its rise

she is the sun—or that the sun shines from her face.

Or the sun is reborn in the light of her face

تُنَازعُهُم نزْراً عليه سكينَةً

تُنَازعُهُم نزْراً عليه سكينَةً

وتُعرضُ عن لَهو الحديثِ وتُطرِقُ

وتُعرضُ عن لَهو الحديثِ وتُطرِقُ

She exchanges a few words with them, marked by serenity,

She outshines all who vie for her glance or her smile

and turns away from idle talk and lowers her gaze.

And ignores idle talk, looking down in her grace
