نَفسِيmy soul الفداءُthe ransom لمنfor the one whom قبّلتُهI kissed him عَجِلاًin haste
نَفسِي الفداءُ لمن قبّلتُه عَجِلاً
والبينُand parting يَعجبُmarvels منat وجْدِيmy longing ومنand at عَجَليmy haste
والبينُ يَعجبُ من وجْدِي ومن عَجَلي
My soul be ransom for the one I kissed in haste,
My soul is the ransom for the one I kissed hastily
while parting marveled at my longing and my haste.
And separation wonders at my passion and my haste

Then he turned his mouth away from me and offered me
So he turned his mouth from me then turned his cheek to me
a cheek where the waters of beauty and bashfulness flowed.
A cheek where the water of beauty and shyness flowed

فزادَ إشراقُ ذاكَ الوردِ بالبللِ
My tears drenched the rosy bloom of his cheek,
So my tears watered his rose garden
and that rose’s radiance grew with the wetness.
Increasing the radiance of that rose with the moisture

So he shivered from the heat of my breaths and the burning
inmost being, and at my silencing his sweet mouth with kisses.
Of my desire and prohibition, his sweet mouth in kisses

What he saw of my alarm troubled him, so he wept,
And what he saw of my pleasure frightened him so he wept
and said, “May this not be the farewell of one departing.”
And said, “If only this were not the farewell of a traveler.”
