إلى كُرماءِ النَّاسِ أشْهى من الجَدَا
Meet those in need with a cheerful face, for it
is sweeter to noble people than bounty.

Be content with obscurity; through it you will live in safety
from what you fear and from enemies' hostility.

Before the heights lies a steep bank; if you venture across it,
rushing headlong, you will bring your life to destruction.

فاسمَعْso heed نصيحَةَthe counsel of مَنone who يكادُalmost لعلمِهِbecause of his knowledge
فاسمَعْ نصيحَةَ مَن يكادُ لعلمِهِ
بالدَّهرِof time's ways يدريhe knows اليومَtoday بالآتيof what is coming غَداtomorrow
بالدَّهرِ يدري اليومَ بالآتي غَدا
So heed the counsel of one who almost—through his knowledge
of time's ways—knows today what tomorrow will bring.
