عشlive واحداًalone أوor فالتَمِسْthen seek لكَfor yourself صاحِباًa companion
عش واحداً أو فالتَمِسْ لكَ صاحِباً
فيin مَحتِدَيْthe two roots of ورَعٍpiety وطيبِand goodness of نِجارِlineage
في مَحتِدَيْ ورَعٍ وطيبِ نِجارِ
Live alone, or seek yourself a companion
rooted in both piety and noble lineage.
واحذَرand beware مُصاحَبةِkeeping company with السَّفيهِthe fool فشَرُّfor the worst of ماwhat
واحذَر مُصاحَبةِ السَّفيهِ فشَرُّ ما
جلبَbrought النَّدامَةَregret صُحبةُthe company of الأشْرارِthe wicked
جلبَ النَّدامَةَ صُحبةُ الأشْرارِ
And beware of a fool's company, for the worst thing that
has brought regret is the company of the wicked.
والنّاسُand people كالأشجارlike trees هَذيthis one يُجتَنىare gathered
والنّاسُ كالأشجار هَذي يُجتَنى
منهاfrom it الثِّمَارُfruits وذيand that one وَقودُfuel for النّارِthe fire
منها الثِّمَارُ وذي وَقودُ النّارِ
And people are like trees: from this one are gathered
fruits, while that one is fuel for the fire.
