and goes away, let his loss not grieve you.

him, say: 'His pledge was not true.'

And why should I desire a fickle

traitor whose indifference has become plain?

And beware the saying of one who

says: 'In love, even its lions submit.'

you, for whom do you reserve your defiance?

If his desertion alarms your heart,

tomorrow even its harshest part will soften for it.

Supple of form, his figure teaches the

    branches how to sway.

    He smiles, revealing sweet lips,

whose coolness sets the inward parts aflame.

No doubt the pearls of his mouth

come from his necklace—or his necklace from them.

His saliva belongs to wine, and to the

fresh-picked, radiant rose belongs his cheek.
