اسيرُI journey نَحوtoward بلادٍa land لاnot أُسرُّI am gladdened بِهاby it
اسيرُ نَحو بلادٍ لا أُسرُّ بِها
إذاwhen تَبدّتْit appears لِعينيto my eye هيّجتْit stirs أسَفيmy sorrow
إذا تَبدّتْ لِعيني هيّجتْ أسَفي
I journey toward a land that brings me no joy.
I wander toward lands I take no pleasure in
When it appears before my eyes, it stirs my sorrow.
When they appear before my eyes, they stir my sorrow
تطولُlengthens أرضِيmy ground إذاwhen يَمّمْتُI head toward ساحتَهاits expanse
تطولُ أرضِي إذا يَمّمْتُ ساحتَها
بُغْضاًout of loathing لهاfor it ثمّthen تُطوىis folded up عندَat مُنصرَفيmy departure
بُغْضاً لها ثمّ تُطوى عندَ مُنصرَفي
The ground before me lengthens when I make for its expanse,
My land lengthens when I intend its field
Out of loathing for it; then it folds up as I depart.
With hatred for it, then it shrinks when I turn away
